Apple, Google, Amazon open smart home ecosystems in new WWDC

The technology and ecosystem for connecting and managing home devices to the cloud are among the most hotly anticipated topics at this year’s WWDC.

The event comes at a critical time for Apple, which recently announced its plan to open a smart home hub to allow people to manage the devices in their homes remotely, as well as an updated version of its smart home app, the Siri Remote, for the Apple Watch.

Google is preparing to launch its own smart home hardware in the coming months, and Amazon has been expanding its Echo brand into smart home automation and smart home software, including the Alexa assistant and the Echo Show, which it acquired in January.
